There's a certain mystique with Earl Grey tea. It's exceptional flavor and colorful, mystery shrouded origins make a great story, and it's probably the most popular of all English teas, and possibly the most famous tea, period.

Frequent references to the blend in popular culture (most commonly, music, movies, television, and books), have only boosted the image, and caused the drink even more popular than ever. You don't have to look far to see references to the Earl Grey tea blend, for example:

Probably the most common character in American television to drink the tea often is none other than Captain Jean Luc Picard, of the USS Enterprise (Star Trek, the Next Generation), and it doesn't conclude there. And let's not leave out animation! In the anime series Black Butler, the main character Ciel Phantomhive drinks Earl Grey tea on several occasions, and the beverage is in fact incorporated into the story in a lot of ways.

Music too, has a number of references, starting from Weird Al Yankovic's "White and Nerdy" song, to Dada's tune on their self titled 1997 album referred to as "The Ballad of Earl Grey and Chamomile." You'll also find a chapter identified as "Earl Grey" in Garrison Keillor's "The Book of Guys," and perhaps if you're into playing video games, and invariably be sitting in front of a game known as the "Steamboat Chronicles," then your default Mech in the game is actually the Earl Grey II, and all of this just scratches the surface.
